TRABA DOORS feature a smooth surface with a distinctive profile, and a cover of protective primer/sealer is provided. You'll have a durable door that ready for apply a high quality paint or faux finish.
Storage & Handling
Doors must be stored flat on a level surface at least 4" off the floor in a clean, dry & well ventalated area. Do not store outside. Use protective covering under the bottom door and cover the top to keep clean, but allow air circulation under and around the stack of doors. Doors should be handled with clean hands or while wearing clean gloves. Care should be taken not to drag them across each other or against other surfaces.
Doors should not be subjected to moisture, abnormal heat, extreme dryness, humid conditions or sudden changes therein. They should be conditioned to average prevailing relative humididty of the locality before hanging. Doors seldom need to be replaced due to warp. Temporary distortions will usually disappear when humidity is equalized.
Doors must be sealed on all six sides with a quality primer sealer within 48 hours of delivery to prevent moisture absorbtion until a final finish can be applied.
Doors must be predrilled prior to screws being installed.
Preparation & Finishing Guidelines
Doors are not considered ready for finish as you received them. Some doors may require more attention to achieve consistent field finishing results. Allow door to be conditioned to local humidity prior to installation.
Stain Finish
Before finishing, remove handling marks, fingerprints, raised grain and the effects of exposure with a complete, thorough, final block sanding over all the surfaces of the doors, using no less than 150 grit sandpaper and clean thoroughly before applying sealer or finish.
Some species of wood contain a chemical, which reacts unfavorably with certain finishes, The surface should be tested for unfavorable reactions. Avoid dark color paint or stains.
Immediately after all fitting operations (trimming, beveling, cutouts, hardware preps, etc.) are complete prior to finishing, hanging or hardware installation; the top and bottom, cutouts and hardware preps must be properly sealed with at leat two coats of a good quality oil base paint or varnish. Allow adequate drying between coats. Water based stains, paints or primers should be avoided necause they raise the natural wood grain, which may cause veneer splitting and have a tendancy to highlight veneer joints.Note: Do not alter or thin the contents of the containers.
On wood veneer doors a wash cost (thin sealer) must be applied prior to use of stains to avoid blotchy appearance and/or sharp contrasts in color from one door to another. THis also helps lessen the "barber pole" effect (light/dark contrasts) between veneer flitches across individual door faces.
High gloss finishes are not recommended. They may accentuate the door's natural construction telegraphing. The full beauty of the wood is best displayed by use if satin or semi-gloss finishes.
Always obtain & follow the paint or stain manufacturer's recommendations.
Traba International is not responsible for the appearance of field finished doors. Failure to follow any of these industry accepted recommendations will void your warranty.
